6 Proven Tips to Improve Your Email Marketing Campaign

6 Proven Tips to Improve Your Email Marketing Campaign

Email marketing is a fantastic way to promote a business, generate new leads, and retain customers as well. According to reports, nearly 70% of all businesses use email marketing to some degree to promote their businesses.

However, just because a business uses email marketing does not automatically guarantee success.

Email marketing is far more complex than just creating a mailing list and sending out emails. Luckily, there are some fantastic tips that you can follow to improve your email marketing campaign.

Tips to Improve the Success of Your Email Marketing Campaign

With the following tips, you should see much greater success with all of your email marketing campaign efforts.

1. Create Segmented Lists

To improve the success of your email campaigns, it is wise to create segmented mailing lists. This involves categorizing your email recipients based on factors such as purchase history, demographics, engagement level, location, and other relevant criteria.

Creating such segments then allows you to target content to specific groups of people. Being able to send relevant content to the right groups of people should help to drastically increase email open rates and click-through rates.

2. Make Emails Personalized

Another factor that can influence the success of an email marketing campaign is how personalized the emails are. While it might be easier and faster to simply send the exact same email to everyone that starts with dear sir or madame, these emails seem very cold and impersonal.

People can easily tell that these emails were mass produced. Therefore, you should aim to personalize each email, specifically by using the name of the recipient. Email content should always be tailored to the behavior and preferences of the specific recipient.

3. The Subject Line Matters

What also needs to be considered with e-mail marketing is the subject line. The simple reality is that the subject line is like the fish hook that reels in the recipient and gets them to open the email.

If you have a poorly worded subject line, or possibly no subject line at all, the chances of any recipient opening said e-mail is virtually zero.

Being able to craft a short, attention grabbing, and relevant subject line is extremely important. More often than not, this can be the difference maker between somebody opening up an email and simply deleting it.

4. Optimize for Mobile Devices

Although desktop and laptop computers are still popular, particularly in places of business, the use of smartphones and tablets is becoming increasingly common, both for email and basic internet surfing purposes. A large portion of email opens now happen on mobile devices.

This means that emails must be optimized to be responsive and to display properly on mobile devices. If your emails are not optimized for mobile devices, recipients may not be able to open or view them properly.

5. Use A/B Testing

One of the most useful things that you can do to improve the success rate of your email campaign is to perform what is known as A/B testing. This is when you change various elements in your emails and compare them to each other.

This could include the call to action, images, subject lines, content, and more. For instance, if you are sending 1,000 emails, you would use a certain subject line for 500 and a different subject line for the other half. You would then compare the two sets of emails to see which one performed better.

6. Use an Email Marketing Service

While all of the above tips are very important, perhaps the most important of all is to use a high-quality email marketing service. Ones such as MailChimp and ConvertKit are amongst the most popular ones.

These allow you to fully automate the process and control all aspects of your email marketing campaign from a single location. These services also come loaded with features that can help improve the success of your campaign.
